At the end of November, each Toyon staff member is required to present a final project to the class. The goal of this assignment is to add more knowledge about literary publishing to current and future staff members of Toyon.
I have decided to create a staff hand book that will be home to general information about how the class works and what to expect form being a part of the staff. I have just begun to work on this project and have a general idea of how to put this together. Staff handbooks can be made and presented in a variety of ways. Handbooks can be made from website builders. A couple of websites that offer this option include: www.airmason.com and www.blissbook.com. Handbooks can also be made from word documents. Microsoft word or Google Docs is most likely what I will use to make my staff handbook for Toyon. I am also exploring the idea of making a PDF, which may be easier for people to access. There are so many ways to create a document like this and it can become difficult to know what to choose. That is where I am currently struggling.
What I am going to include in the handbook for now is: a table of contents, a preface-introduction, links to webpages that will have information regarding Toyon-www.toyonliterarymagazine.com, http://digitalcommons.humboldt.edu/toyon, a "what to expect" page, and a frequently asked questions page. The FAQ page is where most of the information in the handbook will be located. Common questions that get asked all semester long are ones like: "where can we find the google drive?" "what is the final project?" "What are the bog posts?" and so on. When I have more work done on the handbook I will update you all!
